Since I've been watching Doctor Who...
americanslang:
I’ve come to the conclusion that I haven’t really found a more addictive show, aside from perhaps Lost or Entourage. It’s interesting, because Lost had both character and story elements that brought me back episode after episode, and Entourage, while less story-driven, had a wonderful cast of characters and enough story to keep me watching. Doctor Who’s addictive properties simply...
Julian Assange paid two thirds of WikiLeaks salary... →
fuckyeahfeminists:
Details of the finances of Wikileaks came as Mr Assange said he had signed books deals of $1.5 million (£970,000) for his autobiography in order to fight sexual assault charges in Sweden and keep his organisation in business.
“I don’t want to write this book, but I have to,” he told a Sunday newspaper. “I have already spent £200,000 pounds for legal costs and I ...

New Years Resolutions:
I will try to have fewer White People problems
I will continue to avoid all cable news and watching the television in general
I will not to be too disappointed when Fabio gets kicked off of Top Chef
I will find out why the low-tire-pressure has been on in my car for weeks
I will not nod knowingly when people tell me about bands I’ve never heard of

Obligatory End-of-2010 Post.
So let’s see. This year I:
Became legal
Graduated from high school
Went off to college
Moved to Ohio
Made a ton of awesome new friends
Became distanced from some of my old friends
Became closer to some of my old friends
Survived living in snow (for a bit)
Decided to focus on Middle Eastern Studies
Became briefly - very briefly - involved with a guy
Survived statistics - and now...
And because I know you've all been waiting...
After much fantastic advice, I showed my friend “The Lodger” episode of Doctor Who. SUCCESS! So now, if you are ever having to decide which singular episode of Doctor Who to introduce someone to, know that “The Lodger” is a viable option.

your views on (organized) religion?
Also, I understand that you are respectful and accepting of other people's viewpoints (within reason). Anybody who doesn't do the same for you is kind of a dick.

Top officials in several Arab countries have close links with the CIA, and many officials keep visiting US embassies in their respective countries voluntarily to establish links with this key US intelligence agency, says Julian Assange, founder of the whistle-blowing website, WikiLeaks.“These officials are spies for the US in their countries,” Assange told Al Jazeera Arabic...

From Al Jazeera:
A Command Sergeant Major told Catherine Jayne West of the Mississippi National Guard, “There aren’t but two places for women - in the kitchen or in the bedroom. Women have no place in the military.”
She was raped by fellow soldier Private First Class Kevin Lemeiux, at the sprawling Camp Anaconda, north of Baghdad. The defense lawyer in court...

If you think the income tax is illegal, that we’re sliding towards socialism, and that the 10th Amendment is the solution to all life’s problems…here’s an examination of what your tax dollars pay for at the municipal, county, state, and federal levels. - Don’t drive on paved streets or highways. - Don’t call 911. - Don’t flush your toilet. - Don’t bring your garbage to the...
Julian Assange is a punk.
Bradley Manning, however, is a hero. More on this later.

I can’t help but laugh when conservatives use George Orwell and his ideas in arguments attacking socialism. Orwell himself was a socialist, and his work decries perpetual war, dehumanization, and nationalism- all staples of the...

NPR: GOP House's New Rules Include Substance,... →
Really important read. Two especially interesting things to look at:
For instance, the House Committee on Education and Labor will have “Labor” stricken from its name and replaced by “Workforce.” The use of the “labor” goes back to the committee’s origins in 1867. But “labor” presumably sounds a lot like it has to do with unions which are...
Disney Tackles Major Theme Park Problem: Lines →
Really good look into the operation of Disney theme parks. My dad, who worked at Disneyland years ago, always told me that their greatest trick has always been their lines: they make sure to have the lines winding from room to room so you could never see how long they truly are.
